CROWNS
Restore your teeth.
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cover that goes over a broken, decayed, or worn tooth. When a crown has been bonded into place, it covers the entire tooth to the gum line. This creates a new outer surface for your tooth.
Crowns can be made of several different materials such as porcelain, metal or a combination of both. Many people prefer a porcelain crown, because it looks the most natural. Your dentist at Southdale Dental Associates will discuss the best options for you at your appointment.
Your dentist may recommend a crown if:

-
A tooth has been weakened by decay, cracked, or broken.
-
A tooth that has a large filling that is starting to fail.
-
A bridge needs to be held in place.
-
Discolored teeth need to be covered.
-
A dental implant needs to be covered.
During your initial exam, your dentist will explain why they feel a crown is the best option for you. After your exam. our care team will schedule two appointments:
-
The first is to prepare your tooth for the crown. Your dentist will take an impression of the area with a soft material and send it to a dental lab to make the crown. Then, a temporary crown will be placed to cover the tooth until your next appointment.
-
At the second visit, your dentist will place the finished crown and make any final adjustments before bonding it on your tooth.
